Junior Bombers Get Off to Bad Start, but Rebound at the USA Baseball 16U World Championship East

The Junior Bombers at first thought they were snake bit after two heartbreaking losses at the prestigious USA Baseball 16U World Championship East. In Game One they led the strong Miami Raiders going into the seventh inning, but a couple of costly base running mistakes and errors plagued them in an eight inning struggle for an 8-12 loss. In Game Two the familiar seventh inning once again came back to haunt them as they led the Southwest Florida Baseball Club only to drop the game 4-5 in the seventh due to youthful mistakes.

Coach Welch rallied the team in Game Three in an impressive 10-0 win over Team Colorado and today over the Broward Bulldogs 12-5. According to Coach Welch the team is playing better and had a much better day today with an impressive mound performance from Zack Willoughby and another home run by Ajay Snow. The game highlight was a two RBI inside the park home run by Charlie Spencer. In the previous game against the Colorado team Jake Croft had another impressive performance with a 12K game.

The team has their back against the wall tomorrow with a must win to get into the 32 team championship bracket. They will play the Palm Beach Select tomorrow to determine if they advance into the championship bracket or will play in the consolation bracket.

Time to Bomber Up guys!

Robby Campbell and Garrett Pitts also had a good game.

Daryl Norris picked up the win on the mound for the Scout Team going three innings. Chris Krenek pitched two innings of relief.

The Scout Team will be heading to Arkansas State next and then will join the Senior Team in Memphis for a full week at the All American Classic.

The Senior Bombers swept the series at Troy University on Saturday with an impressive win over Team Florida USA 6-2. The Senior Bombers showed solid defense behind Chase Mallard who picked up the win on the hill. Mallard pitched six complete shutout innings with a low pitch count and commanded the plate. Hunter Lemley relieved Mallard in the 7th to close the game out giving up two runs on two hits.

Offensively the Senior Bombers were led by DH Blake Bearden. Bearden caught the eye of several college recruiters this weekend with a stellar performance in all games.

Senior Team Run Rules The Force 11-0

The Senior Team looked like a different team today at Troy University as they jumped all over the Force in the third game of the tournament and cruised to an 11-0 win in five innings of play. The Force's first pitcher didn't make it out of the first inning as Bomber hitters bounced balls deep into the outfield and off the "Black Monster" in right field. Phillip Ervin went the distance on the hill for the Senior Bombers and picks up the win. Kyle Conkle, Blake Bearden, Ryan Joy, Hunter Kelley and Ben Moore all had multiple hits in the game.

Former Bomber Coach Zack Zulli Takes Job at UWA

Former Junior Team coach Zack Zulli called today to inform me that he has just taken an assistant coaching position at the University of West Alabama. Congratulations Zack.

Senior Team's Bats Pound Out Two Wins at Troy

The Bombers got off to a quick start in game one at Troy today and coasted to a 7-3 win over the Wiregrass Cardinals. Kyle Conkle picked up the win on the mound for the Bombers. Blake Bearden turned in a stellar performance behind the plate and swinging the bat.

It started and ended well in game two, but some blunders in the game almost cost the Senior Bombers at Troy today. They took an early lead in the bottom of the first 5-0 and looked as though they would cost into another victory over the Mobile 4Runners, but a few walks and errors with some timely hitting from the Mobile team put them back into the game and they took a lead 5-7 over the Bombers in the top of the fifth inning. The Bombers answered with one of their own in the bottom of the fifth to narrow the lead to 6-7 going into the sixth inning. The Bombers bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth to load the bases for newcomer Hunter Kelley who proved he can play with the best with a shot into centerfield for an inside the park grandslam. Austin Freeman started on the hill for the Bombers and was relieved in the third by Jarrette Davis. Michael Heimbuch relieved Davis in the fifth and earned the win. The Senior Team returns to action tomorrow at 11:30 AM against the Force Baseball.

Scout Team Drops First Game at Ole Miss

The Scout Team dropped their first game of the season today in a tough loss to the GTB Blue Jays 8-9 at Ole Miss. The game had several leads changes and the Bombers led into the 7th before a tough inning cost them the game. The team will try to regroup tomorrow against the Jackson Storm. The loss dops their record to 7-1.

Jacob Croft Throws No Hitter For Junior Bombers

Jacob Crofts return to the Bombers had not gone as he had hoped, at least not until yesterday. Croft began the season suffering from a virus that caused a couple of tough outings at the opening showcase and in his first appearance on the mound for the summer. His form was back yesterday with an impressive 7 inning no hitter against the Wiregrass Cardinals in the 16U Troy Invitational. Croft was dominant with several strikeouts looking and outside of of two errors would have thrown a perfect game. His curve had nice bite and buckled the knees of several of the Cardinal hitters. His fastball sat comfortably between 82-84mph and bumped 87 a few times. It was just what the young Bomber team needed heading into a tough week in Jupiter, Florida at the USA Baseball 16U World Championship East.

The young Bombers completed the tournament 3-1 with a few tired arms and a short pitching staff they hit their way into wins. A typical example was their come from behind win against an Orlando Reds team they run ruled last weekend in Pensacola. Trailing 1-10 their bats came alive behind a HR from Ajay Snow, an off the wall double from Lawrence Bourgeois and multiple doubles from several players. Overall it was a good showing for the Bombers. Defensively and at the plate Wes Kent was stellar.

The team is on the road travelling to Jupiter and will begin with their USA Baseball team workout at 2:30 PM at the complex on Friday.

Scout Team Pounds Both Sluggers Teams For Two More Wins

It is doubtful that the two Sluggers teams will want a rematch against the Bomber Scout Team after yesterday. The Scout team won in impressive fashion before rapping things up and heading out of Baton Rouge. They improve their record to 7-0 with five coming by run rule. Next week at Ole Miss will not likely be as easy against a tougher field of teams, but I would put this group up against anybody at this point. They are playing well.

Game One - 11-0 against Sluggers Blue (5 innings)
In game one of the day the Scout Team pounded the ball again. Garrett Pitts and Aaron Haag had doubles in the game. Chris Krenek hit a triple and homerun. Michael Wells showcased his arm with four putouts behind the dish. Daryl Norris pitched well with seven strikeouts in four innings of work.

Game Two - 15-0 against Sluggers White (3 innings)
The team didn't miss a beat coming into game two of the day and once again pounded the ball. According to the coach everybody hit well. Those they brought to my attention were Brady, Haag, Norris and Pitts.

The Scout Team picks their schedule back up this Thursday in Oxford at the Ole Miss Showcase at 5:00 PM against the Golden Triangle Blue Jays out of Texas.

Junior Bombers Rebound With 7-1 Win

The Junior Team rebounded from the heart breaker for a 7-1 win over Renagade Baseball at West Florida University last night. Peyton Fuller pitched five innings giving up only one run to get the win. Jarrette Davis pitched in relief for the final two inning to seal the deal for the team. Davis is one of three Senior Team players who dropped down to play for the Junior Team due to cancellation of the Southern Mississippi tournament.

Wes Kent had a good game with some nice defensive plays at shortstop. Lawrence Bourgeois hit a mammoth homerun in the game. Lawrence has other obligations last weekend and is just now joining the team and is off to a good start.

The Juniors complete there West Florida tournament today at 10:00 AM against the Florida Mustangs and then will be heading to Troy for the 16U Troy Invitational at Troy University.

Junior Bombers Drop Heart Breaker in Nightcap

The Junior Bombers lost a heart breaker to the Orlando Baseball Academy last night 7-8. The young Bombers led most of the game and never gave up the lead until the end. The game was a battle as the Bombers took an early lead 2-1, the Orlando tied the game at 2-2. The Bombers took another lead and carried into the bottom of the seventh inning, before a few walks and a base hit tied the game. With the bases loaded the winning run was walked in to seal the victory for the Orlando squad. Hopefully the Bombers can find a rematch with them in a few weeks at the 16U USA World Championship East.

The Junior Bombers try to rebound today at 3:40 PM against the Renegades.

Scout Team Wins Today Defeating Parklane Pioneer 9-2

The bats exploded again today for the Scout Team to assist a strong pitching performance from Daniel Lackey. Lackey kept the Pioneer bats at bay all day before tiring in the fifth. Lackey was relived by Gavin McNatt who closed the door on the Mississippi team.

On one occasion the Bombers had back to back to back triples from Ryan Brady, Robby Campbell and Garrett Pitts. According to coaches Pitts' triple may have been an inside the park homerun, but he was held up at third due to his nursing a slight hamstring strain.

The win moves the Bombers Scout Team to 5-0 for the young season. They return to action again tomorrow at 12:30 PM against the Sluggers Blue Team out of Colorado and rap up the tournament at 4:30 PM.

Bomber Junior Team Opens in Impressive Style

The Bama Bombers Junior Team fell right into place with the Scout Team and Senior Team today with an impressive five inning run rule win over the powerful Orlando Reds. The Orlando Reds team that finished as the silver medalist last summer at the 16U USA Baseball World Championship East just ahead of last years Bombers who finished fourth. The young team is playing in an 18U tournament, but showed no signs of being intimidated.

Jacob Milliman earned the win on the mound for the Junior Bombers throwing less than sixty pitches. He was aided by a powerful display of hitting from all of the team. Every Bomber in the lineup had at least one hit.

Game two for the day will be against the Orlando Baseball Academy.

Bomber Junior Team Opens Up Today

The Bomber Junior Team opens up play today in the 18U West Florida Showcase tournament at the University of West Florida. The team begins play against the talented Orlando Reds at 2:40 PM today (Thursday) and then again at 7:20 PM against the Orlando Baseball Academy. Both of these programs will measure where we are at the present time.

The team will enter a long road trip moving from Pensacola to Troy and then off to the renoun USA Baseball 16U World Championship East at Roger Dean Stadium (Marlins and Cardinals spring training facility) in Jupiter, Florida.

Alex Guilford No Hits Louisiana Allstars 17/18

ACA's Alex Guilford had a 54 pitch no hit gem last night against the Louisiana Allstars 17/18 team according to coaches. I got reports all game long from the tournament director who watched the game and was impressed with Alex's game.

Alex was aided with a six run first inning as his teammate's bats exploded out of the gate and added six more for another run rule game 12-0 in five innings. Way to Bomber Up guys! Keep the momentum going into today's game.

Bombers Teams Off to Good Start

All teams are off to a good start with the modified schedule forced upon us by bad weather and a cancelled tournament at Southern Mississippi. We're hoping this energy will carry over into this weekend's tournaments in Baton Rouge and Pensacola.

B.E.S.T. Montgomery Challenge

Scout Team
The Scout Team is off to an impressive start with with three wins in Montgomery. Pitching was off and several pitchers showed signs of being rusty after the layoff between our start and the end of the high school season, but the overall performance was good. Teamwise the hitting was good and so was the defense. Players who had good weekends were Mike Wells with two homeruns, Daryl Norris on the mound and at the plate and Garrett Pitts had a stellar performance at shortstop. David Roberts also pitched well and four Junior Team additions played well with the "big boys" - Colt Buttram, Zack Willoughby, Charlie Spencer and Jacob Croft proved the can hang in there with the big boys.

The team came out of the weekend 3-0 with one victory by run rule.

Senior Team
The Senior Team also got off to a nice start going 2-1 with a modified roster of Senior Team players and Junior Team players. Due to several having high school commitments the team was short handed so we combined the two teams and sent a few Junior Players to the Scout Team. For the most part the team played well, but several errors in game two cost them a victory. Once the complete team is together in Troy they should show what they can do as a team. Several players stood out including Robby Reece who played well. Junior Team middle infielders Peyton Fuller and Wes Kent had good weekends defensively.
