The Junior Bombers are on a roll in the winners bracket of the 16U BEST World Championship in Memphis, Tennessee. The Junior Bombers ended up the three seed behind the Arkansas Express Navy (1) and the Upper Deck Cougars (2). Both one and two seeds fell in the first round of championship play and are having to fight their way back through the loser's bracket. It was a day of upsets and the Junior Bombers almost joined the group in Game One.
Game One: Bama Bombers - 6 Mississippi Braves - 5
The Bombers almost began the third team among the top seeds to fall today. The Mississippi Braves jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and if not for an outstanding catch in the outfield it may have been 7-0. The young Bombers battled back to tie the game 5-5 and eventually win 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Luke Lindsey picked up the win pitching six innings with nine strike-outs.
Game Two: Bama Bombers - 14 Swing Away - 3
For the second day in a row the Bombers "bombed" the Swing Away team to advance in the winner's bracket. Austin Carpenter picked up the win for the Junior Team pitching five complete innings and striking out eight.
Charlie Spencer remained hot at the plate with three hits. Lawrence Bourgeois had two hits. Colt Buttram had two hits including a walk off three run homer in the bottom of the fifth. According to a scout at the game it landed on Arlington High's softball field at an approximate distance of 405 feet!
